You many not know it, but your hips are the foundation for all movement in your body. As the most centrally located area, the hips control how your upper and lower body work together and are even responsible for muscle activation and strain. Simply put, the hips play a huge role in your overall mobility. It's no wonder the hips are a huge focal point of the P.volve method. Most other fitness methods train the hips through flexion alone, leading to inactive, dormant glutes and misalignment throughout the body. P.volve, on the other hand, trains the body at a 360-degree angle, moving you every which way to properly open the hips and strengthen the muscles surrounding them.

In every workout, we use these motions to combat the wear and tear we put on our hips that cause hip flexor soreness: running, high-impact workouts, sitting for too long, general immobility, etc. More than anything, P.volve takes the time mobilize your hips. Use the tips below to start implementing this practice into your routine:

  • Never skip the warmup. Even though they may just seem like stretching exercises, these moves are essential to open up the hips, so don't rush them!
  • If you ever feel strain in your hip flexors during a workout, take a moment to breathe, reset your form and focus before continuing.
  • When doing leg lifts, don't focus so much on the height you lift your leg. Work within your current range of motion before building on it.
  • Be sure to keep your knee back on the standing leg as you do any sort of single-leg exercises.
  • When doing on-the-mat exercises, be sure to keep your lower back and core drawn into the mat to take the strain out of your hip flexors.
