The Best Drink to Fight Winter Colds

‘Tis the season for holiday gifting—and unfortunately, seasonal colds, too. When the stuffy nose hits, there’s one drink that goes above and beyond to help heal and soothe the body. The hot toddy combines whiskey and lemon for a warm winter drink with a twist.

Aside from being comforting, the hot toddy is a good drink for fighting winter colds for a few reasons: first, the warmth helps with congestion, dehydration and a sore throat; second, whiskey is a strong decongestant and a good pre-bed relaxant; and third, the lemon helps detoxify the body. All around, the drink is a must-have when feeling under the weather, or anytime it’s just too cold to venture outside.

Ingredients:
¾ cup water

1 ½ ounces whiskey

2 tbs agave

2 tbs lemon juice

1 lemon round (slice of lemon)

1 cinnamon stick (optional)

Instructions:
1. In a teapot or saucepan, bring the water to a simmer. Pour the hot water into a mug.

2. Add whiskey, agave and lemon juice. Stir until the agave has disappeared into the hot water. Taste, and add 1 teaspoon honey or agave for more sweetness, and/or 1 teaspoon more lemon juice for more zing.

3. Garnish with a lemon round and cinnamon stick (optional). Enjoy!
