A Q&A with Trainer Angelo Grinceri

At P.volve, our trainers are so essential to the method. They motivate us, perfect our form, and help us advance to the next stage of every workout, no matter if we’re in the studio or working out from our living room. That’s why it’s important to get to know these experts better—so we can feel more connected to them and hear why they do what they do so passionately.

This week, we’re introducing a trainer who happens to be a friend of the P.volve community. Angelo Grinceri is joining the roster, who's not only a functional fitness practitioner, but he’s also a longtime friend of P’s! For years, Angelo has followed a similar fitness and now couldn’t be more excited to put his expertise to good use. Get to know more about him below.

We love your friendship with P! Tell us a little about your history with him and how your passions for fitness brought you two together.
P and I have been friends since we were 12 years old! Our friendship started over the love of being active, adventurous, pushing our boundaries, and having some good laughs. We grew up riding bikes, jumping our bikes into lakes, racing dirt bikes all over the tri-state, and dancing our shirts off at the under 21 club nights. Our passion for living a healthy lifestyle, feeling good, and doing awesome activities led us to enrolling into the Gray Institute together.

What, overall, is your approach to health and wellness?
My approach to health and wellness is all about longevity and preparation. I believe we should participate in exercise that prepares the body for all of life’s daily requirements, mainly ones that improve how well we get from place to place (such as walking!)

I believe that some of the best things in life are outdoor experiences. Those perfect sunrises at the top of a mountain and those great sunsets at the end of the jetty will require you to walk, run, jump, reach, and climb. If you want those epic experiences to continue past your 30’s you need to move like a human was meant to move—with great mobility, strength, and an upright posture. And you can’t have any of that without a strong backside.

How did your upbringing or background lead you to where you are today?
When I was a kid I was obsessed with bodybuilding. The need to have bigger muscles took over my life. I lifted heavy weights with basic movement patterns, I never stretched, and I ate way too much animal protein. And I felt terrible! I couldn’t move well, I lost the ability to be efficient, I had back pain, I couldn’t run, I couldn’t play my favorite sports. I couldn’t really do much but squat and bench press. So I took a hard look at my fitness lifestyle and started to replace every piece of it with a more holistic option.

How do you inspire clients (women, in particular) to take a full look at their health?
I believe that health is only found (mentally, physically, and emotionally) with balanced attention toward these four buckets: sleep, nutrition, exercise, and stress. Stress is interesting because in low doses it is great and absolutely necessary. When stress builds up (if it’s emotion, mental, physical) without clearing, releasing, or recovering I can be absolutely detrimental.

What’s the most rewarding part of being a trainer?
The connection. I become committed to each client’s journey within their body. It’s absolutely thrilling to watch someone shift what they thought was physically possible as they learn to learn how to move

What are you most looking forward to about joining the P.volve team?
All of the love and support! It’s great to be surrounded by so many people committed to leading the way for women to live healthier lives using an exercise method that doesn’t destroy their body.
